Retiree Tiers 1 - 4 in a Nutshell

As a service to retirees (and prospective retirees), here is a very brief description of the four retiree "Tiers" at the VCCCD.  It is BEST that you read for yourself the Tier that applies to you as described at the VCCCD Human Resources webpage which you can go to by clicking here.  Note there are Tiers 1 - 4 for faculty, and Tiers 1 - 4 for ASCC (Administrators, Supervisors, Confidential and Classified) employees.  Anyone seeing flaws in this simplification please contact us here.

Tier 1 retirees meeting age and service requirements get lifetime health benefits and are not required to enroll in Medicare but they may wish to at age 65

(some ASCC retirees may have to pay part of premium if premium costs exceed district cap)

Tier 2 faculty retirees meeting age and service requirements are kept on the district health plan to age 65 at which time the district will pay for Medicare and a supplement starting at age 65;

ASCC retirees meeting age and service requirements will receive Medicare and a supplement starting at age 65 paid by the district

(ASCC retirees may have to pay part of the supplement premium if premium costs exceed district cap)

Tier 3 the district will pay for health benefits to age 65 for retirees meeting age and service requirements

(ASCC retirees may have to pay part of premium if premium costs exceed district cap)

Tier 4 retirees do not qualify for district paid health benefits upon retirement
